We will be holding a sponsored cascade walk on Sunday 29th September with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides joining in at different times. More information and sponsor forms will be sent out at the beginning of term. Our next lodge maintenance day is on Friday 27th September from 10.30-1pm. We need to do landscaping work outside, weeding, cutting back of hedges etc, clean windows, scrub tables, plus general small cleaning.tasks. It would be great if parents could spend an hour helping to keep our beautiful building in good condition for your girls. Refreshments will be provided. We need to recruit leaders and unit helpers to strengthen our existing teams to avoid the possibility of having to close units. This is great for your CV and there are also lots of opportunities for adults too. We particularly need help at our Friday night Rainbows and with the Guide units. If you are interested and would like to know more, contact your unit leader or Ann Woolley, District Commissioner on 07956 918521 or email swf.districtcommissioner@gmail.com or visit www.girlguiding.org.uk/interested to register as a volunteer. On Saturday 4th May there will be a district craft afternoon from 1.30pm to 4pm. There will be lots of different crafts for girls to try out and take home with them. The cost will be £4.50 if booked in advance and £5 on the day. Rainbows must be accompanied by a parent. The awards ceremony for Jack Petchey achievers in Essex South East took place at the Towngate Theatre, Basildon in January and was attended by our Town Mayor, Councillor Peter Wyatt. It was a great celebration of all the girls from six different divisions across Essex South East. From South Woodham there was Kerrie from 1st Rangers who received a Jack Petchey award in spring 2018 and in the summer it was the turn of Hollie from 4th Guides. The money for the rangers contributed towards hoodies with a new logo and the money for 4th Guides was used for a new firepit and various camp fire accessories. Brownies and Guides had a fun time at our District Disco at the Lodge on Friday 20th April. Novelties and snacks wer for sale during the evening. The event raised £150 for our Lodge funds. Our Christingle service was held on Sunday 3rd December at Holy Trinity Church in the town centre. The girls were given collection candles to collec their pennies and over £200 was raised for the Childrens Society. 6th Brownies had a visit from Peter Blackman, from Guide Dogs for the Blind, who brought in retired guide dog, Rodney. This was part of the Friends to Animals badge that the Brownies are currently doing. It was a very enjoyable evening and the girls asked lots of questions. The Brownies will be taking part in a sponsored silence in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind on Tuesday 21st March. They have set up a Just Giving fundraising page for your donations.
